My great-great-grandfather, John Tester, started selling sewing machines in Bold Street during 1868. In 1874 Bradbury’s of Oldham (Sewing Machine Manufacturers) bought out his business. I have a copy of an advertisement from 1880 that lists their Liverpool depot at 128 Bold Street. They were still there at the turn of the century, and possibly until the 1920s. I am searching for old photographs of 128 Bold St. which is at the St. Lukes end.
Hi Gavin,
thanks for your comment and useful historical information. If you do have any pictures we’d love to see them; and if you like, to include them in ur exhibition. If you find any, you can get in touch with me and Laura Yates at FACT: boldstreet@fact.co.uk and we can talk through how we could include this.
Thanks Again,
Katie
